Can You Use a Bose Subwoofer With Other Speakers?

So can you use a Bose subwoofer with other speakers?

The simple answer to this question is No!

You cannot use a Bose subwoofer with other speakers because of the architectural design of the subwoofer. The Bose subwoofer has a bass module that functions as a power amplifier for the whole subwoofer. The bass section is not an actual subwoofer and has no LFE input, the unit is simply a woofer on a separate box. Again, the audio input is a full range.

Introduction

A subwoofer is a type of loudspeaker that is designed to produce low-pitched audio frequencies commonly referred to as Bass and sub-bass. These subwoofers operate in frequencies below the frequencies of woofers Speakers. Woofers refer to speakers that are designed to produce low-frequency sound ranging from 20 Hz to 1000Hz. The frequency range of subwoofers is below 80Hz for THX products, below 100 for live sound, and between 20 to 200Hz for Consumer products.

Bose is an American audio equipment Original equipment manufacturer. They are well known for their automobile sound systems, headphones and audio systems, and speakers for homes.

In this article, I will be looking at the possibility of using a Bose subwoofer with other speakers.

The implication of this is that even if you succeed to get a subwoofer signal into a Bose subwoofer, you will have to get a proprietary equalization for the control unit and this is near impossible.

Troubleshooting Common Problem with Boss Subwoofers:

Problem 1: Speaker Grayed Out on the SoundTouch App and Cannot be Selected:

Step 1: Check if the wi-fi light on the Subwoofer is On:

If you are connecting to the speaker via wifi, examine the wifi status light and confirm if it is blinking or solid. If it is neither blinking nor solid, it means the wi-fi is disabled. Try turning it on. See here for a guide on how to enable and disable the wifi.

Step 2: Close and Reopen the Bose App:

As with most minor problems with electronic devices, closing and reopening the Boss app may be all you need to solve this problem. Closing and reopening the app depends on the type of device you are using. For instance:

On iOS devices:

  • Navigate to “view active apps’ on your device. You can do this by either tapping the home button twice or swiping up from the button center of the screen.
  • Swipe right or left to see the apps you want to close.
  • Swipe up the Bose app to close it.

For Android Devices:

  • Locate the Bose app on the home screen and hold the app icon for a few seconds.
  • You will see a prompt, select App Info.
  • Tap on Force Stop

Step 3: Reboot the Device where the Bose App is installed:

Sometimes rebooting the device running the app is enough to resolve this problem. This is done by simply switching off the device and then turning it on again.

 Step 4: Reset the Product:

If closing and opening the Bose app does not resolve the issue, you may have to reset the device in orderAcoustimass, to resolve the issue. Click here for a guide on how to reset the device.

Step 5: Check that the System has power Acoustimass

Ensure that the subwoofer has power and that it is powered on. The device has a display that comes on immediately after the device is powered on. If the display is not on, press the power button, if the display doesn’t light up, it means there is a problem with your power source and you need to sort that out before the device can come on.

Device will not turn on:

Step 1: Examine the power connections:

Make sure that the power connection to the Bose Subwoofer is properly plugged into the Power source.

Step 2: Use the Remote Control and the Controls in your SoundTouch App:

Try turning it on through the buttons on your device, the buttons on your remote, Acoustimass, or via the SoundTouch app. If the Buttons work on one but not the others, it means that the problem is with the button.

Cannot Connect to a Bluetooth Device:

Step 1: Ensure that the Product is Switched on:

If the subwoofer is powered off or at standby mode, it will not be able to connect to a Bluetooth device. Check to confirm that the device is powered on.

Step 2: Check if Bluetooth is Enabled on the Device:

Ensure that the Bluetooth is enabled, you can verify this from the Bluetooth setting. If you have already paired the subwoofer with the sound source, they will automatically reconnect when you enable the Bluetooth

Step 3: Move the Bluetooth Closer to the Device

Although the standard Bluetooth range is about 10 meters. This distance can be reduced by interference from objects such as walls, doors, and other objects capable of causing an obstruction. If your device cannot connect via Bluetooth, you may have to move it closer to the subwoofer and see if that solves the problems.

Step 4: Scan for a list of Available Bluetooth Devices:

Turn off the Bluetooth device and turn it on again and scan for the list of nearby Bluetooth speakers. If the subwoofer doesn’t show up, go to the Bluetooth settings of the device and search for the available speaker, you should see the subwoofer’s name there, select it and the subwoofer will be paired to the sound source.

Step 5: Clear the list of previously-connected Bluetooth device

Every Bluetooth device has a memory where it stores the names of all the previously paired Bluetooth devices. Some situations may involve clearing this list before you can connect a new device. In this situation, like this, you have to clear the device and then try to reconnect to the speaker. Click here for how to clear the paired Bluetooth device list and here for how to connect to a Bluetooth device.
